In 20-plus years I’ve been in this industry, there’s still one thing that people aren’t paying attention to. One recurring theme has consistently caught my attention: a breakdown in communication between team members. Things that individuals shy away from out of fear, of potentially losing their job. However, it could be just what the doctor ordered, for you to step it up for the team.
My mission is clear: To strengthen your relationships with your team to create a healthier work environment to best support your customers and overall business growth.
My journey as a relationship builder stems from being naturally empathic and wanting to help others. I remember looking back at my roles in certain jobs where I would watch the owner, co-workers, and guests, all treat each other poorly.
Are you judgemental but don’t want to be? Do you point fingers and blame when you know you only do so because a lot is going on? Do you ignore the elephant in the room, the true “problem”, aka, opportunity? That opportunity is to connect to understand.
Emotional intelligence comes into play when you notice your feelings and emotions and you choose to bring that into awareness.
In my experience, hospitality leaders never brought these topics into conversations, which led to high turnover rates, hiring issues, loss of revenue, and the list continues into the guest experience.
